Absurdity as a crisis response

papereaters.substack.com

Last week, there was a minor flood in my studio, so I decided to eat some paper.

2” square glassine envelope - sticky, tougher than expected, hint of glue, snack sized. Basically: cheese-its for ghosts.
Letter paper - smooth, crispy, echoes of mint and ink
Vintage ledger pad - brittle, slightly bitter, and overall bland. Finish is a bit numbing. Almost a menthol flavor.
Kraft paper - nutty, chewy, substantial. It’s what for dinner.

The flood helped me decide not to renew the lease on the space …

What *treasures* await you at the studio sale? Honestly, I’d hoped to get some small framed pieces photographed in time, but for now, expect nothing more—and nothing less—than upcycled westernwear quilting bee vibes.

This link will be available to the general public on July 5. Until then, papereaters, the crop tops are all yours.

Summer studio calendar:

June - I contributed a zine to the 2022 queer games bundle, organized by Swampbabes. What? You haven’t perused the gayest independent game package on the internet yet? GO DO SO NOW.

July - catch DEMAND/PRAYER (above) on display at Porchlight Literary Center during salon hours (Saturdays in July, 11am-3pm).

July 6 - the artist’s 30th birthday.

Portrait of the artist on her 29th birthday

Last year for my birthday, I got a kitten. This year, I will be accepting: more kittens, donations to LGBTQ Iowa Archives & Library.

July 6-18: Excited to participate in Women Writing with Lauren Winner. I applied with a writing sample titled “Typewritersexual” (does Lauren Winner know what she’s getting herself into?) This residency will be an opportunity to revise my over-researched manuscript about thread, time, and space.

August 10 - Catch a virtual, 2-hour workshop with me at Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Learn how to put cloth through a typewriter!!! Why sign up? Because more book arts workshops should feature clips from Naked Lunch.
